With over 10 years’ experience working with WordPress, we can complete projects of all scopes and requirements: custom theme development to minor theme configuration; e-commerce; learning management plugins; performance and image optimization; multisite or multi-lingual setup.
We know full-site editing and the block editor (Gutenberg), as well as Advanced Custom Fields and Custom Post Type creation. We’ve developed custom themes extensively with Roots/Sage and _s, as well as updating or maintaining legacy sites of various origins.
We have worked with clients from diverse sectors – from e-commerce setup for a craft brewery to custom theme development for a commercial laundry provider – but we have particular experience working with clients and employers in the nonprofit and academic sectors.
We previously worked for periods of years with: Boys & Girls Club of East Scarborough, Jean Augustine Centre for Young Women’s Empowerment, and several offices of the John Howard Society, as well as the University of Toronto’s Department of Classics and McMaster University’s media production office.
For 2+ years, we maintained the University’s Department of Classics webpage, working with faculty and students to manage content updates and identify strategies for annual maintenance.
We also created a bespoke site for Professor Jonathan Burgess concerning his research into Homer’s Odyssey.
We created the Jean Augustine Centre’s net-new WP website using a Genesis child theme, and subsequently redesigned it using the Block Editor, providing text and video documentation and ongoing maintenance work as new feature-requests emerged.
At McMaster, Sam led the initial development of ‘MacSites,’ a boilerplate theme to act as a flexible-but-consistent site builder, working as the sole full-time developer for months until two additional devs were hired. The project was built upon ACF’s flexible content blocks, with multiple options and style variations to allow for a high degree of visibility.
The project required ongoing attentiveness to the needs of Marketing, as well as the dozens of theme clients.
As the lead/sole developer (freelance) for Cactus Design and Cloud Surfing Media, I’ve handled all aspects of web development projects, from translating design files to custom WordPress themes, to client training and handoff, to maintenance and updating of legacy projects.
For CSM, I built a custom and customizable, core, flexible WP theme that they could use on all client projects, featuring an ACF-backed and component-based flexible design system that allowed them to mix and match sections and select from various design presets to allow flexibility.
